phuyai Drive Sync keeps a Google Drive in two-way sync with a folder on its owner's own computer.
What it is
phuyai Drive Sync is a personal tool. It is built on rclone, the open-source program for cloud storage, and runs only on its owner's own devices, with the owner's own Google account. It is not offered to the public: there is nothing to sign up for, buy or download here. This website describes the tool and its policies.
What it does
- The owner connects it once to their Google account through Google's own sign-in and consent screen.
- Each time it runs, it compares the files in the owner's Google Drive with the files in a folder on the owner's computer.
- It copies new and changed files in both directions and carries deletions over, so that both places hold the same files.
- The files travel directly between Google's servers and the owner's computer, encrypted with HTTPS. No server of the operator is involved.
Google data it accesses, and why
phuyai Drive Sync asks Google for one permission, the Google Drive scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive ("See, edit, create, and delete all of your Google Drive files").
- What it reads and writes: the names, folder structure, sizes, modification times and checksums of the files and folders in the owner's Drive, and the contents of those files.
- Why the full Drive scope: a two-way sync has to see and change every file in the Drive, including files that were created on other devices or in the Drive website. Narrower scopes only cover files the app itself created or opened, so they cannot keep the whole Drive in sync.
- What it does not access: it requests no access to any other Google service, such as Gmail, Contacts, Calendar or Photos.
The data is used only for the sync. It stays in the owner's Google Drive and on the owner's own devices; it is not sent to any server of the operator, not sold, not shared with third parties, not used for advertising and not used to train AI or machine-learning models. phuyai Drive Sync's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
